THE ORIGIN

Making TALE OF THE KITE has been a long journey

The story was inspired by my younger days growing up

in New England. My grandfather and I would take walks into town each day. For him, it was simply running errands but for me it was an exciting way to see the world. He would tell me story after story and I believed them all, every word. I would sit outside my house

each day waiting for him to come by, right up until

the day he could no longer make those walks.

Many years later, I came across a bag of marbles he bought me. One particular big blue marble, which was my favorite, became the genesis for a movie idea. While writing the screenplay, I found that the marble just wasn't visually interesting, so the marble transformed into a kite and thus Tale of the Kite was born.

While filming the movie over 11 years, technology changed. We started with Super 16mm film and finished with RED digital photography. The star of the film, Kevin DeSimone was 10 years old when we began principal photography and 21 when we finished. The beauty in this is that you can see both Kevin and the filmmaking process grow up together. It was a special time for all of us.

I hope you will enjoy the journey.

Take flight....
